Willinois Presents The End of the World

The “prediction” by Saint Hilary.

Most of my early research on the The End of the World is being done on the Internet. My idea was to get some basic information now, and then as time permits, do more in-depth research. Using the Internet, of course, is a risky business. For some odd reason, information on the Web seems to be automatically taken as fact. One clue that what you are reading might be incorrect is when every site repeats, word-for-word, the same “fact”. This is true with the “prediction” by Saint Hilary.

According to may “End of the World” website, I have read that Hilarius (Greek word for happy or cheerful), or Saint Hilary predicted the End of Times on 365 CE. This has come from site such as A Brief History of the Apocalypse and Religious Tolerance. I have my doubts this is true. He did, In 365 published the Contra Arianos vel Auxentium Mediolanensem liber, in which he pronounced that lately deceased emperor to have been Antichrist, a rebel against God, “a tyrant whose sole object had been to make a gift to the devil of that world for which Christ had suffered.”

If he was publishing this in 365, it seems that it would be hard for him to also predict the end, but admittedly this is something I have not read. The thing is, if Hilary believed the end was about to happen, why would he still be writing works to publish?

I would appreciate any information on Saint Hilary.
