It wasn't too long after Christ's death that talk of the second coming began. This is understandable, if you have belief if the good book. The second coming is the resurrection of the dead, the last judgment of the dead and the living and the full establishment of the Kingdom of God on earth.
According to the Bible, the second coming of Jesus is the start of the apocalypse. In Matthew 16:28, it states ‘Jesus said, "Verily I say unto you, there be some standing here, which shall not taste of death, till they see the Son of Man coming in his kingdom.’ Therefore many people believed that Jesus would return before the generation of the Apostles were all dead.
While some believe that this was fulfilled by the Roman destruction of Jerusalem in 70 A.D. , but “When Christ comes in His kingdom, He will return to earth and be seen by every eye” (Matthew 24:25-30 and Revelation 1:7). So, no, Matthew 16:28 did was not fulfilled by destruction of Jerusalem.
This was probably this first time that the Bible was used to predict the end of the world. It did not happen, of course. Maybe Matthew had heard J.C. wrong.
To be far, there are a lot of explainations of this passage you can read.
