From the depths of the sea... a tidal wave of terror!
This 1957 epic is just another example of the dangers of nuclear testing on nature.
There is something so wonderful about a Roger Corman directed film from the mid and late 50's. This is his great period, when he would crank out a film on a week or so, and Attack of the Crap Monsters is Roger at his best, 64 minutes of black and white thrills!
Like all of his movies from this period, the plot is unimportant; I would even bore you with a synopsis. Last I looked, this film is on YouTube, or I'm sure that you can Google it and fine a hundred sites that give you a blow-by-blow account. Come on, now, doesn’t the titles Attack of the Crab Monsters say it all? And it’s got the Professor form Gilligan's Island on it, what more do you need to know?
"You are about to land in the lonely zone of terror . . ." are the words that roll up the screen as soon as the titles are over, almost like you're part of the movie. After some stock footage of nuclear testing, a god-like narrator begins, "And the lord said I will destroy man whom I have created . . . " and I guess he'll do it with goint crabs. Opps, I hope I didn't give something away.
Soon after, a small boat attempts to pull up to the shore of an island. Having trouble, one of the guys fall out. Before his head ends up an appetizers for one of the beast, his struggles in 25 feet of water. After the struggle, when the headless body is pulled into the boat, the others get out. Now the water is waist high. That sets the tone for the rest of the flick!
